Nightlife in Isaan

Isaan nightlife tends to be of the local variety, which means plenty of live music, beer and food served up in open air country-style bars that stay open late into the night. Nightclubs in Isaan generally cater to the Thai teenage crowd, while for business visitors, Karaoke bars offer hostess services, whisky and a sing song.

In general, the nightlife scene in Isaan is one to experience with an open mind and a warm heart. The local people will welcome you to their table, and once the local firewater flows, you're in for a jolly night out.

Ubon Ratchatani has a good selection of bars and clubs for the ultimate Thai night out. Ra Biang Mai, behind the BIG C superstore has live music, good food, cold drinks and comfortable seats, while Swing Party House on Chayangung Road also has food, drinks and live music, with a band that plays a mixture of Thai and English songs. Wrong Way Cafe on Phadeang Road is Ubon's number 1 expat hangout with great food and drinks, plus a pool table available.

In Khon Kean, The Underground is a sophisticated option, located in the basement of the Sofitel Hotel. Besides a disco and karaoke bar, you will find a Microbrewery, Italian Restaurant, Sushi Bar and a Chinese Buffet. For a more local experience, there are bars and clubs scattered around Bung Khaen Nakhorn, the lake in the northern part of Khon Kaen.

Nightlife in Nakhon Ratchasima (Khorat) is varied, but very Thai, with a number of bars with Thai live bands and discos playing Thai dance hits. Foreigners are not a common sight in the Thai discos, but are normally welcome.
