Golfing in Isaan

Isaan does not boast the same choices of high-end golf courses you might find in Phuket, Pattaya or Bangkok, but the advantage of this is that the green fees are much more affordable. In fact, there  only a handful of eighteen-hole golf courses in Isaan, but all of them boast the facilities you would expect of a quality golf course, while remaining relatively inexpensive despite being very well maintained.

• The Country Club at Khao Yai is known as one of the Thailand's top golf courses. Designed by Jack Nicklaus and set in a unique mountain location, the course is the perfect discovery for intrepid golfers. The beautiful but breezy layout punishes sloppy shots and boats pristine lakes, as well as a wide variety of bunker styles, making each hole a new and exciting challenge.  The course is exceptionally well-maintainedr and the greens are therefore slick and well contoured, which guarantees a fast putting surface on every hole.
  
  
• Voyage Panorama Resort is located in the vicinity of  Nakhon Ratchasima, only 3 hours by road from Bangkok.The course's 18 holes are surrounded by rustic lodges and laid out on hilly terrain. Players enjoy both the challeng of the golf, as well as the spectacular views of the countryside. A large, but modestly furnished clubhouse overlooks the course's own lake and swimming pool.
  
  
• Rooks Korat Country Club Golf & Resort offers 18 holes just 22 km from Nakhon Ratchasima. The course is designed to offer challenging and exciting play in  the fresh, tropical air. The fairways and greens provide a test, even for more experienced golfers but together with the small onsite resort, Rooks offers relaxing days on the course in stunning natural surroundings.

In an un-spoilt area, right in the heart of Isaan Province, Best Thai Golf course is located near the small rural town of Ubolrat, within the province of Khon Kaen. The course offers a unique location in - relatively tourist free part of Thailand and provides a relaxing environment, with many unique features to challenge and delight golfers. A round at Best Thai Golf can test the skills as 13 of the 18 holes include at least one water hazard.

In addition to the above courses, there are also plenty of nine hole golf options spread throughout the Isaan region, with standards ranging from superb to haphazard. At courses like the the army base curse, next to the airport in Khon Kaen, it is quite common for a Thai player to ask if you would like to join a round.
