Thailand's largest territory is known as Isaan and borders with Laos and Cambodia. This North-Eastern region is less visited than other areas of the country but there's still plenty to see. Ironically, although most foreigners never visit Isaan, it is in the service industries that its people have contributed most to foreign perceptions of Thailand. When visitors take away pleasant memories of Thai people and their customs, it is often the hotel staff, taxi drivers and street vendors that create this impression. Many of these people come from Isaan.
